Paul Yandoh is the Ashanti Regional Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He has urged party members and supporters to renew their loyalty. This call comes amid signs of declining enthusiasm in traditional strongholds.
Yandoh's comments follow a low turnout at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). This was during the recent detention of NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi. He was granted bail after meeting conditions, including a GHS50 million bond with two sureties.
However, support from party members during his release was less than expected. Yandoh believes this reflects broader concerns among grassroots supporters. These concerns have arisen after the party's performance in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on June 3, Yandoh acknowledged internal grievances within the party. He urged members to give the NPP another chance. “Indeed, there are grassroots challenges,” he said.
He noted that low turnout in the 2024 polls showed these challenges clearly. Yandoh continued to plead with members to support the NPP. He emphasized that it is the only party that can help Ghana.
Yandoh expressed regret for any disappointment among supporters. He maintained that the NPP remains Ghana’s best hope for economic recovery and governance. “The turnout was low, which is expected,” he added.
He pointed out that issues need addressing before enthusiasm can return. His remarks highlight growing concern within the NPP about waning support, especially in Ashanti Region. This area has long been seen as crucial for electoral success.
