Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor is the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness. He spoke about the differences between the "Feed Ghana" program and the previous "Planting for Food and Jobs" initiative.
On April 14, he appeared on Channel One Newsroom. He noted that under the Akufo-Addo administration, the Ministry for Food and Agriculture overspent its 2024 budget. They spent over 7 billion cedis but did not achieve real results.
Dr. Otokunor criticized "Planting for Food and Jobs" for lacking transparency. Inputs were often diverted, which led to the program's failure. He emphasized that the Mahama administration's "Feed Ghana" initiative will focus on efficiency.
He explained that their approach will involve targeting and differentiation. This means ensuring inputs are used effectively to produce results. For example, if a farmer has four acres of land, they should receive inputs accordingly.
"The Feed Ghana Programme will be more targeted and specialized," he said. "We believe it will yield better results."
He also commented on MMDCE nominations, stating that agitations are nothing new.
