‘I appointed you to solve problems; deliver or step aside’ – Mahama to Ministers

President John Dramani Mahama has sent a clear message to his ministers. He emphasized that performance, not presence, will determine their success.

During the opening of a four-day Executive Leadership Programme on April 24, 2025, he reminded attendees of their public trust. He stressed the urgent need for change in their roles. “You were not appointed to occupy space,” Mahama stated. “You were appointed to solve problems.”

He highlighted that Ghanaians expect results without excuses. The retreat, organized with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aims for more than just orientation. Mahama called it the start of a transformation in leadership thinking and action.

“We’re here to shape a collective mindset,” he said. He urged appointees to abandon outdated governance models and commit to service. “The business-as-usual approach will not work,” he declared.

Mahama appealed to his ministers' consciences regarding rising expectations among Ghanaians. Young people, farmers, and small business owners are eager for progress. “Our young people are tired of waiting,” he noted.

He warned that accountability is crucial under his leadership. Ministers must take their duties seriously or face replacement. “If any of us fall short, I will not hesitate to act,” Mahama concluded.

The leadership programme unites ministers, private sector leaders, and development partners. Its goal is to create a shared vision for effective governance under the new administration.
