‘Ndaadaa budget’ – Amin Adam slams gov’t over special import levy extension

Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has criticized the 2025 budget. He called it deceptive and expressed disappointment with the government's actions.

Dr. Amin Adam was particularly upset about the Special Import Levy. The government decided to extend it indefinitely, despite earlier promises to abolish it.

He stated, “I am really surprised that the government is fighting so hard to reintroduce and extend the special import levy.” He made this comment on the floor of Parliament.

Dr. Amin Adam accused the Mahama administration of breaking its promises. He argued that Ghanaians voted for a government that would remove burdensome taxes.

“You are breaking the tradition you have set for yourself,” he said. “This is not what the Ghanaian people voted for.”

He emphasized that Ghanaians were promised tax abolition, not an indefinite extension. This situation, he claimed, is unacceptable.

He referred to the budget as "Ndaadaa," meaning deceptive in Twi. His remarks have sparked debate in Parliament about the administration’s commitment to tax policies.
