The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, praised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). He called it Ghana’s strongest tool against corruption.
Agyebeng spoke at a conference in Accra on June 6. The theme was “Revitalising the Anti-Corruption Architecture in Africa: Ghana's Accountability Journey.” He described the OSP as a unique solution for Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts.
He said the OSP model is our best option to fight corruption. It addresses past shortcomings in traditional methods. Unlike previous approaches, the OSP has full enforcement authority.
The OSP can independently initiate investigations and prosecute offenses. Agyebeng explained that it controls investigations and criminal proceedings entirely.
He emphasized that the OSP framework ensures political neutrality and fairness. This allows it to pursue cases without bias or interference.
For the first time, the OSP targets both public officials and private sector individuals. Agyebeng believes this approach strengthens the fight against corruption in Ghana.
