A-G threatens to release video of search at ex-BoG Governor’s residence

Dr. Dominic Ayine is the Attorney General and Minister for Justice. He has threatened to release video evidence of a search at Dr. Ernest Addison's home. Dr. Addison is the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

This statement follows claims by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. Afenyo-Markin alleged that National Security operatives raided Dr. Addison’s home. He claimed they stole GH¢10,000 and jewelry belonging to Dr. Addison's wife.

At a press conference, Dr. Ayine called these allegations "shameful." He insisted that the search was legally sanctioned with a court-issued warrant. "It cannot be said that it was a raid," he stated.

Dr. Ayine shared his own experience from 2017 when armed operatives searched him after he offered legal advice on the Ameri Deal. He questioned if members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) think they are above the law.

"Are some people now above the law?" he asked, emphasizing that everyone is subject to the constitution. The Justice Minister also warned Mr. Afenyo-Markin against using parliamentary immunity to defame public officers.

He urged for responsible discourse on such matters. As of now, the Minority Leader has not responded to Dr. Ayine’s comments or his threat to release video evidence of the search.
