Dr. Dominic Ayine is the Attorney General and Minister for Justice. He has threatened to release video evidence of a search at Dr. Ernest Addison's home. Dr. Addison is the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
Ayine's comments follow claims by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. Afenyo-Markin alleged that National Security operatives raided Addison’s home. He claimed they stole GH¢10,000 and jewelry belonging to Addison's wife.
At a press conference, Dr. Ayine called these allegations "shameful." He insisted that the search was legally sanctioned with a court-issued warrant. "It cannot be said that it was a raid," he stated.
He shared his own experience from 2017 when armed operatives searched him after he offered legal advice on the Ameri Deal. Ayine questioned if members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) think they are above the law.
"Are some people now above the law?" he asked. "We are all subject to the constitution," he emphasized.
The Justice Minister also warned Afenyo-Markin against using parliamentary immunity to defame public officers. He urged for responsible discourse on such matters.
As of now, Afenyo-Markin has not responded to Ayine’s comments or his threat to release video evidence of the search.
