Residents of Asonomaso, in the Kwabre East Municipality, have urgent concerns. They lack a proper toilet facility. This situation forces many to practice open defecation.
In interviews, residents shared their struggles. They often defecate along roadsides, at refuse dumps, and in bushes. The only existing toilet is in terrible condition and has not been maintained for years.
One resident expressed worry about health risks. "The situation is very worrying," they said.
Isaac Badu, the Assembly Member for the area, confirmed these challenges. He stated that the current facility is dangerous and a safety hazard. Badu mentioned that appeals to the Municipal Assembly have not led to any help.
"The absence of a proper toilet worsens sanitation conditions," he added. Despite repeated calls for assistance, nothing has changed.
To tackle this issue, Mr. Badu noted community efforts to raise funds. They aim to build a new toilet facility to prevent disease outbreaks and improve sanitation.
Residents are appealing for support from the government and NGOs. They hope benevolent individuals will also contribute to their cause.
