The Ashanti Regional office of the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is improving its services. They plan to introduce a bulk SMS notification system for license registration updates.
This initiative comes from the new regional manager, Jerry E. Aflabo. His goal is to make obtaining a license easier and stress-free.
Mr. Aflabo shared his plans during a visit to The Multimedia Group in Kumasi. He wanted to meet the staff and management there.
He explained that this initiative will keep clients informed about their vehicle registration status. Many people wait weeks or months for updates on their cars.
"When they inquire, they often face technical challenges," he said. These issues can arise during biometric capturing and delay the process. To solve this, DVLA will send SMS alerts about car and license statuses.
Mr. Aflabo acknowledged problems with the new Vehicle Registration System (VRS). He promised to work with garage owners, vehicle importers, and dealers for better education on registration requirements.
He also warned prospective vehicle owners against using middlemen for DVLA services. He encouraged the public to speak directly with DVLA staff about registration concerns.
Mr. Aflabo noted that some individuals unknowingly used invalid licenses for years. They only discovered this when trying to renew them.
He assured motorists in the Ashanti Region of his commitment to improving their service experience. "We encourage the public to trust us," he said, "and we will strive to make it pleasant."
