Interior Minister Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has promised to tackle violent attacks on mobile money vendors. His pledge comes after a series of alarming incidents in the region. Residents are living in fear and panic due to these events.
One incident occurred on February 13. Patricia Nimako was shot at her shop in Krofrom. Another tragic event happened on February 26, when Augustine Mensah, 33, was fatally shot while working late in Manso-Asamang. On March 10, Gideon Owusu Sarpong, known as Junior, was murdered during a robbery at his home in Kwadaso.
Currently, police have detained four suspects related to these crimes. They are assisting with investigations into the incidents. During a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Minister in Kumasi, Alhaji Muntaka reiterated his commitment to fighting armed robberies.
He stated, “We will not relent against mobile money attackers.” He assured that combating armed robbery would be a priority. The Minister emphasized their readiness to assist the region in ensuring law and order.
The assurance comes as the region deals with the impact of these crimes. Many lives and livelihoods have been disrupted by this violence. Authorities plan to enhance security measures for vendors and restore confidence among residents.
