The Kumasi High Court has sentenced Dominic Afriyie, 36, also known as “GH.” He received 120 years in prison with hard labor and life imprisonment. This sentence is for his role in a violent robbery and murder in Atasemanso in 2021.
The verdict was delivered on Thursday, May 15. His Lordship Mr. Abdul Razak presided over the case. A seven-member jury found Afriyie guilty of two counts of robbery and one count of murder.
On November 20, 2021, Afriyie entered the home of Michael Dela Agbo Klu. He did this at gunpoint. Klu was a 43-year-old pharmacist and building contractor. During the robbery, Afriyie stole two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH₵1,500 in cash. He then fatally shot Mr. Klu.
After the incident, police received intelligence about another planned robbery. On December 31, 2021, at around 2:20 a.m., Afriyie and three others were arrested in a Toyota Corolla. The car had registration AS 5970-20. Police found two pistols and two single-barrel shotguns during the search.
Investigations confirmed that Afriyie acted alone in the robbery and murder of Mr. Klu. Despite pleading not guilty at trial, evidence led to his conviction.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo praised the court’s ruling. He emphasized the police’s commitment to community safety. “This conviction shows our dedication to bringing violent criminals to justice,” DSP Ahianyo said.
