Some commercial drivers in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, are not following new fares. This was noted by the Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi.
A statement from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) was released on May 26, 2025. It mentioned that on May 24, transport unions announced a 15% fare reduction. All commercial transport operators must implement this change.
The KMA emphasized that drivers who do not charge the approved fare are committing a crime. This offense is punishable by law.
To ensure compliance, the Mayor met with the Head of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD). They agreed to deploy officers on major roads in Kumasi to monitor fares.
The KMA requested public cooperation to restore order on the roads. They appreciate understanding and support for this initiative.
