A/R: NDC Summons Mampong leaders after MCE nomination unrest

The Ashanti Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have invited local party leaders in Asante Mampong. This follows violent protests over the nomination of a Municipal Chief Executive.

On Thursday, upset NDC supporters vandalized the party’s office. They also set fire to items outside the office. The youth claim they heard that Esther Dwomoh has been nominated for the position. However, there has been no official announcement from the Presidency yet.

The youth believe three individuals were shortlisted after vetting. These include Yakubu Issifu, the 2024 Parliamentary Candidate; Mohammed Kamil, the current Constituency Chairman; and Imoro Iddrisu. They argue that one of these candidates should be nominated.

Baah Acheamfour, Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, spoke to Citi News about this issue. He said regional executives are looking into the concerns raised by the youth.

He mentioned that the regional chairman has called a meeting with local party leaders. Currently, they are in Accra for a NEC meeting before addressing these issues.

Acheamfour urged NDC supporters to remain calm during this time. He emphasized that everyone should respect the President's choices regarding nominations. If there are any misunderstandings about decisions made, he encouraged people to seek clarity directly from leadership.
