A/R: Parliament reacts to devastating fire outbreak in Adum-Kumasi

A devastating fire in Adum-Kumasi, Ashanti Region, has caused widespread destruction. Many shops were reduced to ashes, resulting in billions of cedis in losses. This disaster has raised national concern and prompted action from Parliament.

Kofi Obiri Yeboah, the local Member of Parliament (MP), addressed the issue in Parliament. He described the scene as "the worst of all that has happened in this country." He expressed deep concern for market women who lost their livelihoods and called for urgent help.

The fire has sparked discussions about the increasing frequency of such outbreaks nationwide. Edem Agbana, MP for Ketu North, urged bold solutions to prevent future tragedies. However, he warned against politicizing the disaster, especially regarding claims linked to "Dumsor" (power outages).

Agbana emphasized the need for thorough investigations to determine the fire's cause. Samuel Awuku, MP for Akuapim North, also spoke out. He stressed that more than just words of solidarity are needed.

Awuku called for practical measures to improve fire safety and disaster response across the country. As investigations continue, there are growing calls for better fire prevention strategies and support for affected traders.
