A/R: Police arrest notorious armed robber on the run since 2016

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber.

Michael Owusu Ansah, known as Baby Last, is 32 years old. He had been on the run since 2016. He was wanted for robbery and the murder of Police Officer G/Cpl Frank Essel. This incident happened on May 19, 2016, at the Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso.

On April 22, 2025, police intelligence officers apprehended Ansah and four accomplices. The information was shared by DSP Godwin Ahianyo during a press conference on May 14.

During questioning, Ansah admitted to participating in several robberies. These occurred in Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, Asuoyeboah, and nearby areas. All five suspects appeared in court on May 13, 2025. They were remanded into police custody and will return to court on June 4.

In another operation on May 8, three armed men were arrested in Kenyasi. The suspects are Umar Issah (26), Sherif Mohammed (20), and Abdul Jalelu (19). They attacked two residents and stole their mobile phones while riding motorbikes.

During a police chase, Sherif Mohammed was shot in the right rib. The other two suspects also sustained injuries. All three are receiving treatment under police guard at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command is committed to fighting crime effectively. DSP Ahianyo noted that Baby Last has been wanted since 2016 when Rtd Commissioner Kofi Boakye declared him so.

He confirmed that Ansah was arrested for his connection to the robbery and murder of Officer G/Cpl Frank Essel at the hotel in Denchemuoso back in 2016.
