The Ashanti Regional Poultry Farmers Association is urging the government to lower feed prices. They specifically want a reduction in maize costs. High input costs threaten local poultry farms, despite the cedi's recent appreciation.
Mr. Donkor spoke to reporters about his frustration. He highlighted the high cost of maize, a key ingredient in poultry feed. This situation has been devastating for farmers, many of whom are struggling.
The Association wants to discuss this issue with the Minister of Food and Agriculture. Mr. Donkor acknowledged the government's efforts to stabilize the cedi. However, he believes more targeted actions are needed to address inflation in agricultural inputs.
He suggested that government support could include subsidies or tax waivers on imported feed materials. Price control mechanisms could also provide relief for farmers.
Mr. Donkor emphasized their willingness to work with the government on sustainable solutions. The poultry sector in Ghana supports thousands of families and significantly contributes to the economy.
