A/R: Two dead, four injured in gang clash at burial ceremony in Wiamoase

Two people are confirmed dead, and four others are injured. This includes a pregnant woman. The violence occurred during a burial ceremony in Wiamoase, Ashanti Region.

The incident happened around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025. It followed the burial of an alleged gang member. The injured victims are receiving treatment at Wiamoase SDA Hospital.

Nana Boakye Yiadom II, Chief of Wiamoase, confirmed the incident to Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah. He had received warnings about possible disturbances before the ceremony and informed the police.

Nana Yiadom spoke with the youth who came from various communities. He urged them to stay calm and led them to the cemetery for burial rites. However, violence broke out shortly after he left.

The chief explained that four gunshot victims were innocent residents attending another funeral nearby. Some gang members ran into a house while being chased by rivals. Their pursuers opened fire, injuring bystanders.

Nana Yiadom clarified that all deceased individuals were from Aboaso. They came to Wiamoase only for the burial and were not part of the community.

Calm has returned to the area, but concerns remain about potential further violence from gang members. The chief has asked police to increase security patrols and maintain a visible presence.

Residents are shaken by this incident. There are growing calls for stronger security measures against gang-related violence in the region.
