A/R: Two dead, several others trapped in galamsey pit at Mpasatia - Channel1 News

A mining pit collapsed in Mpasatia, Ashanti Region, Ghana. This tragedy has resulted in two deaths. The bodies have been taken to the Afari Community Mortuary.

Rescue efforts began early on Tuesday, April 1. However, it is unclear how many people are still trapped underground.

Salifu Karim, the Assembly Member for Mpasatia Ahembronum Electoral Area, confirmed the incident. He spoke during an interview with Channel One News.

The situation has cast a shadow over the region. Authorities and rescue teams are working hard to find any survivors.

Karim stated that two deceased individuals have been recovered. There are rumors of more people being present at the site. Eyewitnesses reported about five people were in the pit when it collapsed.

He added that they have retrieved two bodies but are still searching for others. The collapse occurred around 8:30 in the morning.
