A matter with many dimensions – Kwesi Pratt breaks silence on Agradaa dollar saga

Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt has joined the debate over a viral video. The video shows Sammy Gyamfi giving dollars to evangelist Nana Agradaa. Pratt calls this a test of President John Mahama’s ethical standards.

During a segment on Good Morning Ghana, Pratt shared his thoughts. He said this is his first public comment on the issue. He emphasized that the controversy has many dimensions.

Pratt praised Gyamfi as a skilled communicator for the NDC. He stated, “Sammy Gyamfi is a darling boy of the sitting president.” He described him as eloquent and efficient.

However, he noted that the scandal has divided both major political parties. Within the New Patriotic Party, opinions vary widely. Some believe Gyamfi did nothing wrong, while others call for suspension and investigation.

The same divisions exist within the NDC, according to Pratt. He believes this case is critical for Mahama’s presidency. “Everyone is watching President Mahama and the Chief of Staff,” he said.

He warned that mishandling this situation could create negative perceptions about governance.

Pratt acknowledged Gyamfi’s apology but criticized his allies' defense efforts. He called some responses “pedestrian” and “stupid.”

He rejected claims that Agradaa is needy and found it unhelpful to say Gyamfi has always been rich.

“If he can advise his friends to stop these defenses, it would help,” he suggested.

Pratt recognized Gyamfi's importance to the NDC's resurgence. However, he urged Mahama and Chief of Staff Julius Debrah to consider all factors before making decisions.

“You just launched a code of ethics last week,” he pointed out. He questioned how this situation fits into that framework, highlighting Debrah's heavy burden in managing the fallout.
