President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, mourns Pope Francis' death. He called the Pope “a global symbol of compassion, humility, and justice.”
Mahama shared his sorrow on Twitter. He offered condolences to the Catholic community worldwide, especially in Ghana.
“The world woke up to the sad news of Pope Francis’ passing,” he wrote. He extended heartfelt condolences to the Roman Catholic Church and all Catholics in Ghana during this time.
He praised the Pope’s legacy. “His legacy of compassion and commitment to social justice will inspire generations,” Mahama said. “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
The Vatican confirmed Pope Francis' death early Monday morning. He was 88 years old. Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced the news at 7:35 AM.
“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis,” he stated. The Bishop of Rome dedicated his life to serving God and His Church.
Cardinal Farrell emphasized that Pope Francis taught us Gospel values with courage and love for the marginalized. He expressed gratitude for the Pope's example as a true disciple of Jesus.
Pope Francis was elected in 2013 after Pope Benedict XVI resigned. He leaves behind a rich legacy as a reformer and advocate for vulnerable people. His simplicity earned admiration from both religious and secular communities.
