ADC demands ORAL probe ‘rotten’ diplomatic waste under Akufo-Addo government

The Africa Development Council (ADC) is demanding an investigation. They accuse the Akufo-Addo administration of abusing state resources.

The ADC wants the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative activated. This initiative aims to trace and recover misused public funds.

On May 27, the Council expressed outrage at former officials' actions. They criticized these officials for prioritizing personal gain over state infrastructure.

“The ADC has noticed great concern about the previous regime's recklessness,” the statement said.

The situation in Ghana’s Foreign Affairs sector is reportedly worse than expected.

Officials allegedly chose private hotels over official residences. This led to government properties deteriorating while taxpayers paid for expensive accommodations.

“Residencies of Regional Coordinating Councils were left to rot,” the Council noted.

They highlighted a specific case involving the Russian Federation. Ghana’s diplomatic residence there was left unused while hotel bills accumulated for the Ambassador.

The ADC urges the ORAL Taskforce to act quickly and decisively.

“The ORAL Team must investigate and retrieve unnecessary expenses billed to the State,” they stated.

Additionally, they recommend recalling or reshuffling Ghana’s diplomatic staff worldwide. This would help eliminate wasteful practices and improve discipline.

In another concerning revelation, the ADC mentioned undeveloped land gifted to Ghana. These plots were intended for building an Embassy in Russia but remain unused.

“Ghana was given land for its Embassy, yet it remains unutilized,” said the Council.

The ADC calls for a generational shift in leadership thinking. They believe it is time for long-term planning that prioritizes public interest and sustainability.

“It is time for leaders to think beyond their generation,” they urged in their statement.
