Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine is the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.
His office has raised concerns about a Mauritius-based company. This company received a $2 million payment from the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) for a Skytrain. Dr. Ayine stated that a lawyer confirmed the company's questionable status.
The government plans to prosecute former GIIF CEO Solomon Asamoah and Board Chairman Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi over this transaction. Dr. Ayine spoke to journalists in Accra yesterday, revealing that the payment lacked GIIF Board approval.
This situation has raised serious legal and financial issues.
Dr. Ayine also mentioned that Solomon Asamoah is evading prosecution in Senegal. He initially traveled to South Africa on February 2, 2025, before moving to Senegal. The Attorney General said they are closely monitoring his movements.
If Mr. Asamoah does not return voluntarily, the government may try him in absentia. He has promised to return in three months, similar to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta's case with the Special Prosecutor.
However, Dr. Ayine emphasized that the law will take its course.
He noted that the $2 million transaction was made at the request of Prof. Ekumfi and Mr. Asamoah without board approval. A review of GIIF Board minutes confirmed key procedural conditions were not met.
Dr. Ayine assured Ghanaians that the government is intensifying its fight against corruption and financial misconduct. He referenced former President John Dramani Mahama's statement about Ghana being a "crime scene." The public should expect shocking revelations soon.
