AG did no wrong in briefing the public about Adu-Boahene's case – Benjamin Quarshie

The Chair of the South African Council of Elders for the NDC has defended the Attorney General's (AG) press briefing. This briefing was about Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB).

He stated that the AG was informing the public about corruption cases. During a panel discussion on 'Maakye' on Kessben TV, Benjamin Kofi Quashie spoke on this issue. He rejected the idea of trial by public opinion. He emphasized that the AG acted in good faith.

Mr. Quashie criticized Adu-Boahene's lawyers for their letter about the AG's actions. He said their claims were misplaced and emotional. He pointed out that morality should guide actions before laws are established. Mr. Quashie argued that with the AG's exposé, such a letter was unnecessary.

He remarked that it undermines logic and makes everyone look foolish. Regarding Adu-Boahene's arrest, he reminded others of past arrests by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). These included arrests at airports and churches to ensure accountability.

Mr. Quashie advised NPP members to be cautious in their responses. He warned against suggesting public servants can steal without consequences. "You can’t loot state resources and then hire lawyers with stolen money," he stated.

When asked if the AG’s actions implied guilt for Adu-Boahene, Mr. Quashie disagreed. He noted that if Adu-Boahene denied claims about his properties, it indicates wrongdoing. "One doesn’t need to be a lawyer to see this is criminal," he added.

In his view, this case harms Ghana’s democratic progress and should not be ignored. "I'm not a lawyer, but we must recover stolen funds," he said. He stressed that focusing on jailing Adu-Boahene isn’t as important as rebuilding for future generations.
