The Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, received an injunction application. This seeks to stop the President from removing Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Ghanaian citizen Ebenezer Osei-Owusu filed a writ at the Supreme Court. He invoked its original jurisdiction under the 1992 Constitution. He wants to declare the President’s actions unconstitutional.
Old Tafo MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah made a similar application earlier.
Now that the Attorney-General is formally served, the President must pause consultations with the Council of State. This pause will last until April 2, 2025, when the injunction is determined.
If the President proceeds despite this injunction, he could face a contempt charge. Such a charge could lead to his removal under Article 69 of the Constitution.
