Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine announced upcoming criminal charges. These charges will be related to two major scandals: the Accra Sky Train project and the National Service Scheme (NSS) ghost names scandal.
During a press briefing on April 30, Dr. Ayine said investigations into the Sky Train project are complete. The investigation found that $2 million was paid by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF). This payment was made to a company for preliminary work without GIIF board approval.
Dr. Ayine stated that only two people knew about this payment. They are former CEO Mr. Solomon Asamoah and former Board Chairman Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi. Both will face charges next week, as the docket is ready.
Some GIIF board members have offered to testify as witnesses for the prosecution. Dr. Ayine is also providing immunity deals for those willing to cooperate.
He said, “If you are a whistleblower and even marginally involved, I’m prepared to cut a deal.” This aims to focus on prosecuting the actual criminals.
In addition, he mentioned that investigations into the NSS ghost names scandal are progressing well. Charges against some individuals involved will be filed in early May.
Dr. Ayine also noted his office is working on other significant cases. These include issues related to National Cathedral expenditure and Senior High School Wi-Fi projects. He assured that dockets for these matters are nearly ready for prosecution soon.
