AGI seeks common ground with FDA over beverage advertising guidelines

The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) is hopeful about an agreement with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA). This agreement concerns new guidelines for beverage advertisements.

Seth Twum Akwaboah, AGI’s CEO, spoke to Citi Business News before a meeting on May 14, 2025. He said the association supports consumer protection but worries about business impacts.

“We’ve been invited by the FDA to discuss regulatory issues in the beverage industry,” he explained. This is not their first discussion on this topic. The FDA is introducing new regulations.

The FDA shared a draft of these regulations with AGI members for feedback. During previous meetings, AGI provided constructive input for revisions. The FDA has since worked on these changes and invited further engagement.

However, Mr. Akwaboah noted that AGI has not yet received the revised documents before the meeting. “We requested the updated version to prepare our contributions,” he said. Unfortunately, they haven’t received it yet, possibly because it’s still being finalized. Despite this, the meeting will proceed as planned.
