AGLOTLED launches “1 Child, 1 Book a Week” initiative to promote reading among pupils

The Association of Global Traditional Leaders in Development (AGLOTLED) has launched a new initiative. It is called “1 Child, 1 Book a Week.” The launch took place at the Redemption Orphanage Home in Damongo, Savannah Region.

This program aims to promote literacy among children. It also seeks to foster a culture of reading and learning.

Redemption Children’s Home was established in 2006. It provides care for orphans from Damongo and nearby areas. Currently, it houses 54 children and has helped many reintegrate into society.

During a donation dinner with the children, AGLOTLED's President launched the initiative. Nana Afia Siraa Ababio III is also the Queen Mother of the Werempe Division of Berekum Traditional Council.

The program encourages each child to read one book per week. This aims to nurture personal development and academic excellence.

As part of the launch, AGLOTLED made donations. They provided money, bottled water, and biscuits for the children's welfare and education.

The group enjoyed spending time with the children. They pledged ongoing support in the future. They also advised youth against substance abuse and peer pressure.

Pastor Abraham, the Proprietor of Redemption Children’s Home, expressed gratitude to AGLOTLED. He appealed for more support, especially for infrastructure development.

The “1 Child, 1 Book a Week” initiative is expected to improve academic performance. It will also enhance overall personal development for the children.

AGLOTLED has extended similar support to other groups across various regions in Ghana.
