AMA, Korle Klottey completes first phase of clean-up and decongestion in Accra's CBD

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly have completed the first phase of a clean-up operation in Accra’s Central Business District (CBD). City authorities are committed to continuing this effort.

The early morning operation targeted key routes. These included Kinbu Road to Railways, ECG Junction to King Tackie Tawiah Statue, and Opera Square to Adabraka.

During the operation, unauthorized structures were removed. Hawkers were cleared from pavements and roadways. This aimed to restore order and improve movement for pedestrians and vehicles.

Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey led the exercise alongside Municipal Chief Executive Alfred Ato Allotey-Gaisie. They engaged with traders and supervised enforcement teams on-site.

After the operation, Mayor Allotey stressed that this is not a one-time event. He stated it marks the start of ongoing efforts to sanitize the capital. “We are committed to maintaining law and order in the city,” he said.

MCE Alfred Ato Allotey-Gaisie supported this view. He described the initiative as a new phase in urban management. He highlighted strong collaboration between both assemblies as a fresh approach to city governance.

The Assemblies plan further phases of this exercise in the coming weeks. They urge the public, especially traders and transport operators, to support their campaign for a cleaner Accra.
