The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is starting a decongestion exercise today. This operation is in collaboration with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly.
The focus will be on areas near the AMA Head Office. Key locations include Kinbu Road, Railways, ECG Junction, and Opera Square.
Gilbert Ankrah, the AMA Public Relations Officer, spoke to the media on Monday. He explained that the exercise will cover important routes from Wato Junction to Cow Lane.
“The plan is simple,” he said. “We will address all zones around the AMA Head Office.” Areas near Accra City Hotel and Mövenpick Hotel will also receive attention.
Before the exercise began, AMA Chief Executive Michael Kpakpo Allotey met with street hawkers. He asked for their cooperation during this cleanup effort.
“I urge you to help us clean up the city,” he said. “We all want a better environment, and your cooperation is essential.”
Mr. Allotey connected this initiative to a future 24-hour economy policy. “This policy will create new opportunities for you to sell overnight,” he noted.
“For now, please stay off the pavement as we clean up,” he added. This decongestion campaign aims to restore order and improve sanitation in Accra.
