AMA Begins Decongestion Exercise in Accra
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has started a decongestion exercise. This effort aims to remove street traders from unauthorized areas in the Central Business District (CBD).
On Tuesday, May 20, officials swept through major markets in Accra. The exercise was led by Mayor Michael Allotey. Areas like Kantamanto, Tudu, and Kinbu Senior High Tech were cleared for easier movement.
After the exercise, Allotey spoke to the media. He stated that the decongestion drive will continue to Adabraka, Circle, and Kaneshie. He emphasized that this is not a temporary measure.
Allotey assured that the AMA is committed to improving sanitation on Accra's streets. "I don’t give promises I cannot stand," he said. "This exercise is not a nine-day wonder; we are here to clear the roads."
Earlier, the AMA had notified residents about this initiative. They are collaborating with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly. The goal is to restore order and improve sanitation across the city.
