The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has chosen 20 youth-led initiatives. This selection is part of the second phase of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF). The goal is to empower young people to create solutions for climate change.

Mr. Gilbert Ankrah, Head of Public Affairs at AMA, announced the selected projects. These projects will run for six months and cover various climate action themes. Themes include public education, urban greening, waste management, and renewable energy.

“These projects show the creativity and commitment of young people in Accra,” the statement said.

The winning projects include:
- Promoting the Accra Climate Action Plan through Photography
- Urban Gardening and Beautification with Advocacy Seminars
- Advocacy for Climate Change through Quizzes and Debates
- Green Above the Sky of Accra
- Youth Summit: Engaging Future Leaders on Climate Change

Other selected initiatives are:
- Community-led Waste Segregation and Composting
- Bike Your “Trotro”: Promoting Cycling as Sustainable Transport
- Transforming Coconut Husk into Clean Energy
- The Apata Initiative

The AMA received a total of 58 applications during this call for proposals. A panel of experts assessed these applications using predefined criteria. They selected 20 initiatives based on their alignment with YCAF goals and the Accra Climate Action Plan (2021–2025).

Bloomberg Philanthropies launched the Youth Climate Action Fund to support climate action globally. It currently aids efforts in 100 cities across 38 countries.

So far, this global fund has supported over 1,000 projects. It has engaged more than 100,000 young people and planted over 118,000 trees. Additionally, it has collected over 225,000 pounds of recyclables and established more than 2,800 gardens.

The AMA congratulated all successful applicants and thanked all who submitted proposals. As implementation begins, they reaffirm their commitment to amplifying youth voices in climate governance. They aim to foster a resilient and sustainable Accra moving forward.
