The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is conducting a decongestion exercise. Recently, they made a surprising discovery at Las Palmas near Circle. Locals call this area “Lucifer Village.”
This site has many illegal structures. These include makeshift brothels, bars, and eateries built over a large gutter.
Joseph Asitanga, an Environmental Health Officer with the AMA, leads the operation. He described the location as a public health and safety nightmare.
During a press walk-through, Asitanga noted that these structures are unauthorized. They pose serious risks to residents and visitors alike.
“These structures are built directly on top of a major gutter,” he said. “There are pubs, brothels, and other operations here—completely unregulated and extremely dangerous.”
Asitanga mentioned that many occupants in Lucifer Village are foreign nationals. This includes Nigerians and Togolese who may lack permits to operate businesses in Ghana.
He added that the area has sanitation issues and is known for immoral activities. This further justifies its inclusion in AMA’s decongestion efforts.
The AMA plans to demolish these structures soon. This action is part of their broader goal to reclaim public spaces and clean up the city.
They aim to prevent unlawful occupation of critical infrastructure like drainage systems. The AMA remains committed to making Accra cleaner, safer, and more orderly as the decongestion exercise continues.
