ASEPA petitions Mahama for Auditor General's removal

The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama. They want him to start constitutional proceedings to remove Auditor General Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu.

The petition was filed on April 3, 2025, at Jubilee House. It accuses Mr. Asiedu of high crime, misconduct, and abuse of office. The petition also claims he violated constitutional laws.

ASEPA's allegations include failing to follow Supreme Court directives. They also accuse him of colluding with the Audit Service Board against parliamentary authority. Other claims involve unlawfully retaining public funds and abusing discretionary powers.

These actions allegedly violate multiple constitutional provisions and statutory laws. Mensah Thompson, ASEPA's Executive Director, stressed the need for accountability in public office.

He stated that this petition begins a constitutional process under Article 187(13) of the 1992 Constitution. This process is similar to removing the Chief Justice under Article 146.
