AU Day 2025: A call for justice and unity – Gyakye Quayson

James Gyakye Quayson is a Member of Parliament for Assin North. He belongs to the National Democratic Congress. He has called for justice, unity, and collective action. This is to address historical injustices and promote development.

On Sunday, Mr. Quayson issued a statement for African Union Day 2025. He shared this with the Ghana News Agency. He urged Africans to reflect on their past injustices. He encouraged them to renew their commitment to healing and a dignified future.

The theme for Africa Day is: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.” The day symbolizes unity, resilience, and a shared commitment to justice and equity.

Mr. Quayson stated that reparations are about more than compensation. They aim to restore dignity and demand accountability. It’s essential not to forget the past but transform it into progress.

He quoted Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the father of Ghana: “The forces that unite us are greater than those that keep us apart.” Mr. Quayson emphasized unity, introspection, and action for a better future.

He noted that the government is reshaping its own story through various programs. These aim for total economic and social emancipation.

As Africans celebrate this day, he urged them to unite for truth and justice. He wished everyone a happy African Union Day and called for collective action towards a brighter future.

African Union Day is celebrated on May 25 each year. It commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963, which became the African Union in 2002.

This day celebrates African unity and promotes cooperation among countries. It showcases Africa’s rich cultural heritage and diversity while encouraging economic growth across the continent.

It’s also an opportunity for Africans to reflect on their progress, challenges, and aspirations for the future.
