The management of Quality Bus Services (QBS) is facing criticism. They operate the Aayalolo Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system under the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE). Passengers and drivers are frustrated with the declining service quality and poorly maintained buses.
Commuters at the Central Business District (CBD) expressed their concerns. They reported that the Aayalolo buses are not meeting their intended purpose. Many described the buses as unclean, with foul odours and broken air conditioning systems.
One commuter shared, “Some buses smell terrible, and the air conditioning doesn’t work.” This discomfort is especially noticeable during busy morning and evening hours.
Drivers confirmed that many air conditioners have been turned off to save fuel costs. One driver said, “Management says keeping them on uses more fuel.” The high price of diesel has made operations challenging.
Passengers also raised issues about disorderliness at the CMB terminal during peak hours. Some conductors reportedly allow friends to skip queues, causing delays for others. One passenger noted, “You have to know someone to get on a bus quickly.”
What was once seen as a world-class transport solution is now under scrutiny. There are increasing calls for GAPTE and the Ministry of Transport to act quickly. They need to restore reliability and integrity to the Aayalolo BRT system. More updates will follow!
