Bench Warrant Issued for Abdul Kadir Nasir
The Circuit Court in Dansoman, Accra, has issued a bench warrant for Abdul Kadir Nasir. This decision was made by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit. Nasir failed to appear in court despite receiving a hearing notice.
Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder requested the warrant after Nasir missed two court summons. These were on May 12 and June 2, 2025. The court has now adjourned the case to June 25, 2025. The police are instructed to arrest Nasir and bring him to court.
The case involves several complainants who are foreign exchange traders at Tudu in Accra. They allege that on March 8, 2025, Nasir approached them as a businessman needing currency. He claimed he had clients looking for both local and foreign currency.
Based on his claims, the traders gave him large sums of money. Detective Chief Inspector Bashiru Salifu Zibo is leading the investigation into this matter. He reported that Nasir received US$5,200 from Mohammed Osman and US$500 from Abdul Rahman Seidu.
Nasir also took GH¢50,000 from Musah Zibo and GH¢65,000 from Safiyan Iddriss. Additionally, he received GH¢110,000 from Jibril Adams, GH¢25,000 from Sumana Munkaila, and GH¢15,000 from Bilyamin Abdul Rahman.
After collecting these funds, Nasir allegedly disappeared. When confronted by the traders later, he claimed the money was lost through online sports betting. He said it had been transferred to his mobile money account but stolen by an unknown Nigerian.
So far, only GH¢10,000 has been recovered during the investigation and given to the police. Nasir faces multiple counts of fraudulent breach of trust under Section 128 of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960 (Act 29). Each charge relates to specific amounts misappropriated from individual complainants.
The prosecution argues that Nasir dishonestly used the funds entrusted to him for currency exchange transactions. The bench warrant aims to ensure his presence at trial and continue judicial proceedings smoothly. Further proceedings are set for June 25, 2025.
