Abetifi College of Education principal nabbed for allegedly stealing school mattresses and chairs

Dr. Phylis Agyeman Nyarko, the principal of Abetifi College of Education, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service.

She is accused of stealing mattresses and chairs meant for students. These items were sent by the Ministry of Education.

A viral video shows a truckload of the alleged stolen mattresses and chairs. In the video, a man claims that the principal and a driver colluded to steal them.

He said, “Yesterday evening, the mattresses for students were stolen. We don’t know if they will sell them or open a shop.” He added that both individuals have been arrested and are at the Abetifi Police station.

The man urged President John Dramani Mahama to investigate the principal's actions.

Many Ghanaians reacted to this situation on social media. One user suggested that officials should monitor goods distributed to schools more closely.

Another user expressed that if true, those involved should face severe punishment as a deterrent. They feel current penalties are not enough to prevent such actions.

A third user criticized Ghanaians for being ungrateful and engaging in wrongdoing without fear. They called for reforms in all institutions.

The incident has sparked significant public outrage and calls for accountability.
