Ablakwa: Time for ECOWAS to reaffirm commitment to founding ideals

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, urged ECOWAS member states to renew their commitment. He spoke at the launch of ECOWAS's 50th anniversary celebrations. This event took place at the Accra International Conference Centre on April 22nd.

Ablakwa emphasized the need to build on past successes. He said it is crucial to confront future challenges together. "It’s time to reaffirm our unwavering commitment," he stated.

He added that the next chapter of ECOWAS should embrace both past and future. "We must consolidate our gains in peace and security," he noted. He also called for deeper economic integration and inclusive growth for all citizens.

The launch event was hosted by President John Dramani Mahama. It marks the start of a year-long program of activities across member states. These celebrations will showcase ECOWAS's achievements in regional integration, peace, and development over five decades.

Dignitaries at the event included former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, ministers, and Members of Parliament.
