The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the cancellation of two transactions. These transactions were initiated by the previous Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government. They involved selling Ghanaian diplomatic properties in Nigeria and Zambia.
Ablakwa stated that this decision had President John Dramani Mahama's full support. The goal is to protect the country’s diplomatic assets.
“Yesterday I informed Parliament about our cancellation,” he said. “We have cancelled two transactions to sell Ghanaian properties abroad.”
He also mentioned efforts to recover an illegal part payment from one transaction. Those responsible for this deal are currently on the run and will be pursued.
“The masterminds will surely be found and sanctioned,” he assured. “No diplomatic property belonging to Ghana will be sold under our watch.”
Ablakwa warned against any future attempts to sell Ghana’s diplomatic assets.
“None of our diplomatic properties are available for sale — hands off!” he declared.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to national interest and preventing state capture.
“The principles of ORAL and strict abhorrence for State Capture will guide us,” he concluded. “For God and Country.”
