Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has invited U.S. Ambassador Virginia Palmer for talks on April 7 regarding former President Donald Trump's newly imposed 10% tariff on Ghanaian imports.
The tariff is part of a broader trade policy that also includes a 34% levy on Chinese imports and 20% on European Union goods.
Ablakwa, in a statement on X, stressed the urgency of the meeting, seeking clarity on the tariff’s justification as concerns mount among Ghanaian businesses.
The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana has also condemned the move, arguing it violates WTO protocols and could harm the economy.
The government hopes for diplomatic engagement to mitigate the impact on trade relations.
