**Trump Tariffs: Ablakwa Invites US Ambassador Over 10% Tax On Imports From Ghana**
Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has invited the US Ambassador to Ghana. He wants to discuss the new tariffs on exports to the USA.
On April 2, President Donald Trump imposed a 10% tax on imports from Ghana. This is part of a global trade shakeup.
The meeting with Ambassador Virginia Palmer is set for April 7. Ablakwa expects clarifications about the tariff increase.
In a statement, he confirmed the invitation. He said, “I have invited US Ambassador Virginia Palmer to my office.” He seeks reasons for President Trump’s decision.
Ablakwa's notice follows calls from stakeholders like the Importers and Exporters Association. They urged the government to address the US action publicly.
Samson Asaki Awingobit, executive secretary of the association, called it a significant blow.
Ambassador Palmer has downplayed concerns about the tariff's impact on Ghanaian exports. She assured that trade between Ghana and the US would remain strong.
On April 3, she expressed confidence in Ghana’s key exports like gold and gas. She stated these goods are vital to global trade.
Palmer emphasized that despite changes in policy, Ghana remains important to the United States.
