Foreign Affairs Minister-designate Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has outlined plans to use foreign diplomacy to combat Ghana’s rising unemployment.
During his vetting on Friday, January 31, 2025, he emphasized leveraging bilateral agreements to create job opportunities for Ghanaian professionals abroad while ensuring their safety.
Ablakwa highlighted concerns over the exploitation of Ghanaian migrants, particularly in the Gulf region, stressing the need for formal employment channels to prevent abuse.
He proposed government-to-government agreements to regulate migration, ensuring workers travel under secure conditions rather than through unverified agencies.
By turning "brain drain" into "brain gain," Ablakwa believes economic diplomacy can open new job markets while protecting Ghanaian workers from human trafficking and mistreatment.
