The Aboso Glass Factory in Tarkwa, once a symbol of Ghana's industrial strength, has reportedly been sold to scrap dealers, with images showing its metal structures being dismantled.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that large trucks were hauling away valuable metal parts, including transformers.

Originally founded in 1966 by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the factory was key to supplying bottles for the beverage industry and employed 500 workers at its peak.

Despite various attempts at revival, including government promises and a 2019 takeover by GIHOC Distilleries, the factory has now been reduced to scrap.

Maxwell Kofi Jumah, GIHOC’s MD, confirmed the factory’s fate but remained vague about the new investors and the reasoning behind the sale.
