Former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, is worried. He is also a Member of Parliament for Damongo. Jinapor spoke about the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 elections. He appeared on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on April 16.
Jinapor found the election results unexpected and disheartening. He noted that many in the party were surprised by the loss. “2024, we didn't win,” he said. “That was a very difficult moment, a long night.”
He emphasized that the unexpected nature of the results was troubling. “If anyone had told me before the election that we would lose, I would have doubted it completely,” he stated.
Jinapor urged the party to accept the people's verdict. “The voice of the people is the voice of God,” he said. “The people have spoken loudly, and we must move on.”
The NPP's defeat means they lost both the presidency and their parliamentary majority. This marks a significant shift in Ghana’s political landscape.
