Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, a member of Parliament's Health Committee, criticized the dismissal of the CEO of Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). He stated that President John Dramani Mahama did not follow the proper legal procedures.
The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, confirmed Dr. Adam Atiku's dismissal on Joy FM's NewsNight program on April 22.
On JoyNews' AM Show on April 24, Dr. Agyemang referenced the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act. He pointed to Section 37 (1), (2), and (4) regarding appointments and terminations.
He explained that the Act states all board members must be appointed by the President with Council of State consultation. This includes termination procedures outlined in subsection (4).
Dr. Agyemang emphasized that any termination must also involve consultation with the Council of State. He argued that this process was not followed in Dr. Atiku's case.
The MP clarified that his argument is not about the President’s authority to dismiss or appoint officials. Instead, he highlighted a procedural lapse in how this decision was made.
"We are not saying the President lacks rights," he said. "We are saying due process was not followed."
