Abuakwa South MP rallies political and security forces to end environmental degradation

Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, the MP for Abuakwa South, has launched a campaign against environmental degradation.

His goal is to restore ecological balance and protect local livelihoods.

The constituency faces severe environmental destruction from illegal mining activities. These operations pollute water sources and damage farmlands, including cocoa plantations.

Residents are concerned but feel powerless against these threats. They have repeatedly asked their MP for help.

“I have received many concerns about illegal mining and pollution,” Dr. Agyeman said. “I cannot sit idly by while these activities harm my people.”

In response, he has taken immediate action, starting with a security intervention. He held a meeting with Regional, Divisional, and District Police Commanders in the area.

“I called an urgent meeting to find solutions,” he explained.

The meeting aimed to develop strategies to combat illegal mining and restore order.

“Our discussions focused on the security issues affecting our communities,” he noted. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among security agencies.

“We recognized the importance of collaboration and intelligence sharing,” he added. This cooperation aims to restore safety and protect the environment in Abuakwa South.

Dr. Agyeman committed to providing resources and support for effective enforcement of environmental regulations.

“I will ensure our security services have what they need to stop these destructive activities,” he stated.

The police commanders and other security heads pledged their support for restoring Abuakwa’s natural environment.

Additionally, Dr. Agyeman organized a bipartisan forum with all political stakeholders. The forum united participants in addressing the environmental crisis without political bias.

“We resolved to tackle illegal mining together, regardless of party affiliation,” he affirmed.

Beyond enforcement, Dr. Agyeman seeks long-term solutions to youth unemployment driving illegal mining. He aims to create alternative job opportunities in the constituency.

“I am working to attract investors for diverse businesses that will provide decent jobs for our youth,” he said.

He remains hopeful about development prospects in his constituency.

“Engagements with global contacts have been encouraging,” he shared. “We must maintain a sustainable environment to attract investment.”

Dr. Agyeman urged those involved in harmful practices to consider sustainable alternatives instead.

He encouraged youth to explore crop farming, vegetable cultivation, livestock rearing, or poultry farming as viable income sources that also protect the environment for future generations.
