Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, the MP for Abuakwa South, has launched a campaign against environmental degradation. His goal is to restore ecological balance and protect local livelihoods.
The constituency faces severe environmental destruction from illegal mining activities. These operations pollute water sources and damage farmlands, including vital cocoa plantations.
Residents are worried but feel powerless against these threats. Many have urged their MP to take action. Dr. Agyeman stated, “I can no longer stand by and watch these activities destroy livelihoods.”
In response, he held a security meeting with police commanders in the area. The meeting aimed to develop strategies to combat illegal mining and restore order. He emphasized collaboration, intelligence sharing, and proactive enforcement.
Dr. Agyeman committed to supporting security agencies with tools and political backing. “Together, we will protect our people and preserve our land,” he said.
Police commanders pledged their support for restoring Abuakwa’s environment. Dr. Agyeman also organized a bipartisan forum with political stakeholders to unite against environmental threats.
“To effectively combat illegal mining, we must work together,” he noted. Beyond enforcement, he seeks long-term solutions for youth unemployment driving illegal mining.
He aims to attract investors for businesses that create decent jobs for young people. “We must maintain a sustainable environment,” he added.
Dr. Agyeman concluded by urging those involved in harmful practices to adopt sustainable livelihoods like farming or livestock rearing. These ventures can provide income while protecting the environment for future generations.
