Academics excluded from suspension of post-retirement contracts – Haruna Iddrisu

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu announced on April 11 that public universities are exempt from the government's suspension of post-retirement contracts.

He stated, "The academics are not affected by the previous decision." This announcement was made in Accra.

Mr. Iddrisu clarified that universities can still seek necessary approvals through their councils and other bodies.

On April 2, 2025, a statement signed by Dr. Calistus Mahama declared an immediate suspension of all post-retirement contract appointments for retired public service staff nationwide.

The statement ordered an immediate halt to granting such appointments. It emphasized that requests for contract extensions involving retired personnel would no longer be accepted.

It also urged full compliance and instructed all relevant authorities to strictly follow the new policy.
