Accra Academy Senior High School is facing a staff shortage. This issue contributes to rising student indiscipline.
Headmaster Emmanuel Ofoe Fiemawhle shared that only 22 staff members live on campus. They oversee around 5,000 students. This lack of staff makes it hard to manage the students effectively.
Fiemawhle expressed these concerns during a visit from the Education Committee of Parliament. He mentioned, “We have 22 staff who serve as hall masters and other roles.” He added that this number is insufficient for managing boarders.
He believes this staffing issue should be a priority for the GETFund. He noted he hasn’t received support for residential infrastructure recently.
Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Chairman of the Education Committee, recognized these staffing challenges. He assured that efforts are being made to resolve them.
Nortsu-Kotoe stated, “We have seen shortages in various schools.” He emphasized that Accra Academy needs more staff due to its large student population.
He recommended that the Minister of Education seek clearance from the Minister of Finance. This would allow recruitment of teachers and auxiliary staff for senior high schools.
