The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) continued its decongestion campaign on Wednesday, May 21. This operation took place at the Circle Neoplan Station. It targeted unauthorized structures and street vendors. The AMA also enforced sanitation and traffic regulations.
This marked the second day of a citywide initiative. The goal is to reduce congestion and restore order in Accra. AMA officials say this effort will improve pedestrian and vehicle movement. They aim to ensure compliance with city planning guidelines.
On Day 1, the campaign focused on high-traffic areas near the AMA Head Office. Key locations included Kinbu Road, ECG Junction, and Opera Square. These areas are known for heavy street vending and congestion.
Authorities urge traders and commuters to cooperate with the taskforce. This cooperation can help avoid unnecessary confrontations. The AMA remains committed to making Accra cleaner, safer, and more orderly.
In related news, Mayor Michael Allotey announced that confiscated items would be donated. These items were taken during the exercise in the Central Business District. Unlike before, the AMA will no longer auction seized items.
“We’re ending the auctions,” he stated. “These items will now go to the Prisons Service for better use.”
